What is WD-40?: WD-40 is a weekly devotion, followed by a 40 word prayer, given out every Monday.
This Week’s Scripture: Matthew 15:27
This woman was not supposed to be even in the vicinity of Jesus. Jesus should have looked down on her. As a Syrophoenician woman, she would have been considered unclean by Jews, and they would have been discriminated against. Indeed it seems as if Jesus Himself throws a slur her way by His statement of letting the children eating first. But the most interesting comment comes from the woman herself.
Her statement affirms two ideas that she believes:
1) She places herself under the authority of Jesus. She sees Him as her King. She calls Jesus “Lord”. She sees herself as answering to His authority, and His authority only.
2) She believes that even the least of Jesus’ power (the “crumbs”) is enough to satisfy her deepest needs, including her daughter’s health.
These two things combined show Jesus that her faith is greater than most, and He heals her daughter with a simple oral command.
40-Word Prayer: King Jesus, let us realize that You are sovereign over all things. Let us affirm you as King over our lives, and let us realize that even the smallest glimpse of Your power is more than enough for our needs.
