Sunday Recap – 12/06/09
This past Sunday, we discussed the idea behind Luke 1:28 (link), focusing on the fact that Jesus’ birth was an act of humility that surpasses anything we could ever imagine: the King of Everything, who depends on no one, came to us, and became dependent on others. The mood was extremely somber and reverent, and there physical emotional reactions to the message this morning, as we were reminded at the utter grace that Christ extends towards us through His birth. The setlist is here:
- Rise and Fall (Daniel Renstrom) – This song is an amazing anthem written by Raleigh worship leader, Daniel Renstrom. It’s kind of the theme song for the series, focusing on the revolutionary aspects of Jesus’ birth; that He was a King born as a baby boy.
- Fairest Lord Jesus (Joseph Seiss) – This song reminds us that Jesus is more beautiful than anything in Creation. A beautiful song that Jessica Mazariegos led us in. This song also served as our Communion song.
- Joyful, Joyful, Lord We Adore Thee (Henry Van Dyke) – A classic Christmas carol, we sang this song in hopes of reminding ourselves that it is out of joy, not job, and delight, not duty, that we serve and adore our Risen King Jesus.
Next week, we’ll be taking a look at the first ever Christmas carol, the magnificat of Mary in Luke.
