Sunday Recap – 11/15/09

Derek Brown | Blog | Sunday November 15 2009

This past Sunday, we discussed John 7:37-52 (link), and looked at Jesus’ claim to be the Spring of Life. Check out the sermon notes online here. The setlist is here:

  • Chainbreaker (Charlie Hall)- This was a great song to wake us up and bring some life and energy into the room. The band did a really good job, and it opened the service nicely, focusing us on the Heart Savior who we worship: Jesus.
  • Christ the Solid Rock (Edward Mote) – This song is lyrically awesome. On top of that, we ended it by simply singing the chorus over and over, almost as a reminder to ourselves that anything else besides Christ that we wrap our lives around will eventually blow or wash away. Very centering for us as a community to sing that we stand on Christ.
  • Spring of Life (Kristian Stanfill) – Fits the message perfectly, and allows us to end on a good note as we move into worship through the Word. I (Derek) have a special place for this song in my heart, because of the things that it’s “seen” along with us. It’s been there since the beginning, and will continue to be our anthem as we proclaim the name of Jesus throughout our city.
  • Let Us Sing Again (Fanny Crosby) –Pablo found this one I’m thinking on the Hymnary site, and set it to a new tune. Great song that actually talks about, and puts into practice, the missional nature of worship. Here’s the lyrics (if you want, we may be able to get a recording of our tune):

Let us sing again the praise of the Saviour,

How He died that we might know the Father’s love

Let us tell to all the world His compassion,

How He ever lives to plead for us above.

Let us praise Him for the words full of comfort,

That He left for us recorded long ago;

He is near to every one that believeth,

And His mercy to the faithful He will show.

Let us praise Him for the soul-cheering promise,

Of the mansions that our eyes shall yet behold;

When we gather with the blest, in His kingdom,

Where the riches of His grace can ne’er be told.

CHORUS

Let us tell (let us tell) the wondrous story,

How He died (how He died) upon the tree;

Unto Him be all the praise, and the glory;

He hath suffered that from sin we might be free (we might be free).

And that’s that. Next week is the awesome story of the adulterous woman, and how Jesus intervenes on her behalf!
