Sunday Recap – 01/17/10
Derek Brown | Blog | Sunday January 17 2010After last week’s service, we kept the momentum rolling with a great service that centered on the concept of fatherhood, both physical and spiritual. As usual, we had more than a couple of new faces. Pastor Derek taught from John 8:38-49, and addressed the issues of fatherhood, idolatry, and looking to Jesus when we try to save ourselves. The band had a great morning leading us in worship as well. As last week, we are to then, in response, repent and trust in the One true living God, instead of the dead idols that so often plague our souls. Here’s the setlist from this past week:
- I Want to Be Ready (Ben Harper): Ben Harper wrote this song as a spiritual outpouring of his desires when it comes time for him to move on from this world. We sang it this morning as an introduction song, to reset our minds and to focus them on Christ.
- Let Us Sing Again (Pablo Mazariegos): This song is a retooling of an old hymn by our own Pablo Mazariegos. We used it to open the worship set, as well as to facilitate and ground us during Communion.
- Sweetly Broken (Jeremy Riddle): This is quickly becoming a favorite here at Harmony. It’s extremely Gospel-centered, and has a melody that brings out the best of our emotions as well. It speaks to our desperate need before Him, and reminds us of our need for and awe-inspiring nature of the Gospel.
- Nothing But the Blood (Matt Redman): This is Redman’s version of the classic hymn. Great way to wrap up the worship set and center us on the blood of Christ as we moved into the text for the morning.
Next Week: Jesus is old, and knows something that we don’t.
