Keeping Harmony @ Unks

   Posted by: Derek   in General

Last night’s town hall meeting was LOOONG and there is still no resolution which keeps us clueless where this whole issue of rezoning Unks (restaurant where we have our services) will go….It was pretty cool seeing a great number of people and business leaders supporting that Unks not close and obviously there stood HarmonyChurch supporting a bar to remain open (is that not something?)… We need this bar to remain open, its the place where we meet to draw people to Jesus and worship Jesus. But after reading todays 2:9 devotional on Psalm 14: “for God is whith the generation of the righteous”, therefore we’ll continue to seek His will and favor.

Greenville is smoking

   Posted by: Derek   in General

As I was leaving Berni’s &  Mike’s house today (around 3:30 pm) I ran across lots of smoke and little by lil began to realize that our city of Greenville was smoking. Actually it all began to make more sense as hours later we could see more smoke outside the church’s office and its been about 4 hrs. and I just read in DailyReflector that the smoke will continue to worsen through Thursday. They say that what happened was that a fire “consumed more than 40,000 acres or 63 square miles”.  Das crazy dauwg! and in addiition the smoke will spread all the way to Raleigh and Fayetville (alaba al que vive!).

Back in G-vegas

   Posted by: Derek   in General

Was good guys….I’m back in greenville and day by day adjusting to a new routine w/out school. Here are a list of events that took place during my break:

1. Got to spend time w/my girlfriend for 2 weeks (”chido” = awesome).

2. Went to nephews birthday party (Daniel) and got to hang out with some family.

3. Went to girlfriend’s brother’s graduation @ UNCG.

4. Stayed in Charleston for a week/ for Southern conference baseball tournament w/my “novia” (girlfriend) and her   fam.

5. Had a graduation family party (like 25 people, house was packed) and gifts were great.

6. Got to visit my home church (which I hadn’t in like a yr) and played keyboard for their worship service.

So, yea overall my break was awesome and the best part of it was certainly spending time w/my novia. But, now its time to get back to focus.

Tirofijo is dead

   Posted by: Derek   in General

just read that FARC leader Pedro Antonio Marin , AKA “Tirofijo” died from heart attack…This is great news for our brothers in Colombia being that this guy lead one of the biggest if not the biggest “terrorist groups” of Latin America in Colombia for over 40 yrs…many kidnaps and a number of deaths under his command and of course serious drug trafficking . This does not mean that FARC is over but does stir some hope for a better Colombia free from FARC. ..You know was crazy is that currently Uribe, Colombia’s current President, has created a “reward fund of up to $100 million for rebel soldiers who leave FARC” (CNN), ya das how dangerous this rebel group is.

I’m in Charleston

   Posted by: Derek   in General

So I am chilling here in Charleston for a week for the Souther Conference Tournament supporting my girlfriends brother “Wes”, who is a pitcher for the Spartans (UNCG)…Then will be heading back to Gastonia till tuesday when my girl departs back to Dublin….ANyways, I wanted to share one thing that caught my attention last night as I was getting ready to go to bed were the crickets that were outside my room. I came to realize that they like to harmonize and they like to do so in the keys of C# and B. This may sound boring but after all these years hearing crickets I have finally come to appreciate them.

Graduation around corner

   Posted by: Derek   in General

Yea , graduation is happening in about 5 days and I still can’t believe that God has allowed me to make it this far…I graduated from high school back in 2000 and yes I was ranked 310th of the 380 students in my graduating class and after graduation I did not go back to school for 2-3 yrs. Once I decided to continue with school it turned out that I was not ready for college level courses and ended up having to take all these prereq. courses, like reading, writing and math classes, all totaling around 20 some hrs. that did not count for anything.

So then I continued with school but did so as a part time student, taking day and night classes…So I attended Vansgramville Tech, WakeTech, NCSU and finally ECU…Now as I look back in to this journey of education I am amazed at the fact that I did not give up. I am the first one in my fam. to receive a college degree and am a minority in this country and that is really what drives me to not quit this race… I feel as though God has allowed me to represent and make a difference in my Latino community and am very thankful…..Anyways, I still don’t even know if I am graduating and I just wanted to say that I am here in library studying listening to Groovera Jet City Lounge (my chilling station).

The Economy

   Posted by: Derek   in General

Ok so the # 1 issue in america is the economy, clearly understood. Everyday if you tune to the news you’ll always hear something in regards to the economy. I mean gas, foreclosures, food and all sorts of other items keep rising and rising and the dollar keeps falling and yes in some shape or another it effects all of us…and as fear rises within us or amongst our surroundings lets be reminded of what the Bible teaches us in Psalm 112

1 Praise the LORD. [b]
Blessed is the man who fears the LORD,
who finds great delight in his commands.

2 His children will be mighty in the land;
the generation of the upright will be blessed.

3 Wealth and riches are in his house,
and his righteousness endures forever.

4 Even in darkness light dawns for the upright,
for the gracious and compassionate and righteous man. [c]

5 Good will come to him who is generous and lends freely,
who conducts his affairs with justice.

6 Surely he will never be shaken;
a righteous man will be remembered forever.

7 He will have no fear of bad news;
his heart is steadfast, trusting in the LORD.

8 His heart is secure, he will have no fear;
in the end he will look in triumph on his foes.

9 He has scattered abroad his gifts to the poor,
his righteousness endures forever;
his horn [d] will be lifted high in honor.

1st: Aim on fearing the Lord more than the economy. 2nd: We should NOT STOP giving financially to the organization(s) God has put in hearts, b/c it is these financial offerings that convert into blessings. Though amounts may change yet the act of giving should not be omitted. 3rd: when it says “conduct your affairs with justice”, that means be wise with tu dinero (money), like not spending more then what you can afford.
