Here’s our vision:
We want to see a community of people that loves God, lives intentionally in the Kingdom of Christ, and echoes the Good News to others around them, for the glory of God and the good of Greenville.
Love God
Theologically, it is the command to “delight yourself in the Lord”. We are to love God as we love ourselves…in fact, more than we love ourselves. We are to cherish Him with our body, mind, soul, and strength. Our very being should cry out in joy as we see God for who He is and what He has done for us.
Practically, this means that we seek Christ in every way that we can: through Scripture, through prayer, through singing songs to Him, and through gathering as a church for the purpose of seeing Jesus through one another. We take communion together on a regular basis, and we baptize one another as we see Christ for what He has done for us: saving us from His wrath because of sin’s infection and invasion of our lives.
Theologically, this means that we live with our eyes wide open to the work of Christ among us, and then we strive to be a part of that work. We are strangers to this world, as the apostle Paul writes. We see people not in lieu of gender, race, ethnicity, or economic status, but rather as people either in Jesus…or in need of Jesus.
Practically, this means that we serve our city, being the hands and feet of Jesus on earth now until He returns. It means that our marriages do not bow before earthly standards, but are held to higher standards: the Gospel. Our children are to be raised within the Gospel and the Kingdom. We work our jobs and study our schoolwork according to the King’s decrees, not according to man’s expectations. Our very breath should exhale Christ and His authority over our lives.
Echo the Good News to Others
Not only are we to live intentional, but we are to live “on mission” as well. Living missionally, from a theological standpoint, simply means to seek to fulfill the Great Commission of Jesus: to bring all nations to Him through the message of His redeeming work on our behalf. We are to live in such a way that we bring people to Him, that He may do a work in their soul and mind.
Practically, this means physically loving people to Jesus through service, deed, demeanor, and speech. We are to constantly proclaim the Gospel of Jesus’ subsitutionary death on the Cross and His victorious resurrection which punished and abolished death and sin forevermore. We proclaim this through deed, such as acts of service and kindness, and through word, such as inviting others to Harmony Church events and get-togethers, and defending the faith against other worldviews.
This is our vision. This is what we see. Perhaps you will join us in making this vision a reality. For the glory of God and the good of Greenville.
